In fall 2000, Paul entered the Writers' Lab of the Canadian Film Centre and the following year completed the Centre's Professional Screenwriting Programme. He has since had feature scripts and a TV documentary series under option. Paul has also been a script reader and an adjudicator of Canadian Film Centre's Worldwide Short Film Festival Screenplay Giveaway. 

In 1986, Paul received an undergraduate honours degree in Combined Studies (major, English) from Nene College, University of Leicester.
